Research Expertise
- HIV, STD, and Teen Pregnancy Prevention
Much of the work I’ve done over the last 20+ years has focused on HIV, STD, and pregnancy prevention among adolescents and young adults. The last few years, much of our work has involved interventions, including school-based, mass media-based, computer-based, and community-based interventions. - Theories of Health-Related Behavior
Many researchers in fields related to health behavior have concluded over the last several years that theories in this area are too individually focused. We have developed and begun to test the Multiple Domain Model, which adds social structural, individual difference, social environmental, situational, and preparatory behaviors to the mix. - Substance Abuse Prevention
Much of our work on substance abuse prevention has focused on the intersection of alcohol and other drug use with risky sexual behavior, including within experimental studies the impact of sexual arousal, perceived partner risk, and marijuana use on sexual decision-making. Some of our ongoing work is also focusing on interactions of characteristics of prevention messages and individual differences in designing effective substance abuse prevention campaigns.
